I’m confused on this topic because I hear black people say the n word all the time but when a white person says it they get mad. Can someone clarify for me.

if you arent black simply dONt say the n word? because you mentioned your confused about why. it was at one point used as a word of degradation against black people, and has slowly become a term used by people who at one point in history had to endure that. therefore, as used as a word against black people, it has been reclaimed and used in many instances depending on the situation. therefore, no white people cannot say the word. they were never dehumanized as much as black people were, so this word being reclaimed by them is their right.

They should be able to say it without being physically, emotionally or socially attacked… provided that is not used in a disparaging or aggressive way. However, I would recommend avoiding it personally if you aren’t black just because you might piss people off. Basically I just think that claiming words that only one race can use is inherently racist and very infantile. I think black people should try and chill about it if their weren’t bad intentions behind it. I think everyone could stand to lighten up about this kind of shit. Making all these little rules for race relations only serves to stoke flames and rile people up. So yeah, you can if it’s not I’ll-intentioned… but I’d personally recommend avoiding it until everyone can learn to quit being so sensitive.

The word is literally a slur… it’s a racist insult. Is that hard to not say one word? What do you mean “if their weren’t bad intentions behind it” ? It’s a slur… it’s racist, don’t say it, it’s not that hard!

It’s very juvenile to say one race can and one can’t do anything, especially say a particular word. Also it is inherently racist. Limitations of rights on any person because of race is racist, even if they are white.

And stop saying things in all caps. Put your emotions aside and use adult language to intelligently argue a point. No attacks, just logic, personal experience, evidence that is historical or scientific… etc.

If the use of the word pertains to a story or historical account or something like that, then why is it so bad? Just don’t call anyone that as a label or degradation.
