This actually makes zero sense. Can someone care to argue how it is ‘retarded’
I could also ask “can you argue how it is not retarded?“ Feminism is unnecessary today. We are all treated equally, there is no point in wasting your time becoming upset over something that doesn’t exist anymore. Women and men are equal.
So you would say that even the mutilation of 12-year-old girls’ sex organs in Africa, or women unable to leave their house without a male counterpart without facing the possibility of being killed, raped, or tortured, women being sold in marriage at 14 or unable to experience higher education or having the insanely high possibility of getting raped before the age of 22, just to name a few, women and men are treated equally in the world? To be clear, all of the things I listed are still happening in today’s time. But the ideology of feminism isn’t needed or “unnecessary”? The truth is the majority of cultures view women as incompetent vessels, and just because you only think of feminism as blue-haired liberals complaining about fat liberation doesn’t mean feminism isn’t needed or that women get treated equally in the majority of cases. Your argument is ignoring basic logic.
I think women should have just as much rights as men do. Here, it is unneeded. There is no systemic suppression of women in the United States or much of the Western world. I believe that rapists should be castrated or killed but that is more associated with the justice system itself, not feminism. I would say it is rarer for a grown man to be raped but little boys get raped too. It is a different argument from feminism. Rape is one of, if not the worst crime possible and I believe it should be treated as such. Regarding other countries’ mistreatment of women, feminism here is not going to do much. Protests in those countries might help, and I honor people like Malala, but those countries are not our country. So yes, in the world it is needed but not when pertaining to the United Stated or Western world. I agree that we could send troops into Africa and take over to set up more stable, equal governments but that could spark much worse. I apologize for misspeaking, but I still believe that feminism is not needed in the U.S.
Well it used to be about equality, but now it seems to be about giving women the upper hand over men.
Its not retarded, its just the stupid people that fight over it
we really have more important things to worry about, like wars and pollution
after all, what’s the point of having equality if the world ceases to exist?
plus the people who have the most power in terms of feminism are the *ehm* crazier ones
some feminists really want to have equality, others are bat-shit crazy
for example, calling men sexist pigs implies all men.
Ok, this is actually really interesting. My first thought was no, because that’s definitely not the proper use of retarded and obviously its not unnecessary because of the subconscious sexism that definitely exists. (More on that later.) However, I doubted myself, and so I looked up the definition of retarded. Oxford dictionary says retard (the verb) means: “delay or hold back in terms of progress, development, or accomplishment.” Which is totally true. This initially seemed like just someone using retarded because it implied stupid or was derogatory towards the feminists’ movement, but in reality its entirely true. What people believe as feminism today is seen two ways.
First, by supporters, they see feminism as a movement to equalize the genders and have equal or rather equitable opportunities for women considering how men typically are unfairly selected over women. This has evolved significantly, and so, so many more things have been added as goals of the movement but for the sake of solidity, that is just the base feminist idea. Now, for anyone that disbelieves there is a need for equity in the first place, I urge you to imagine if you were in fact put in a position where you were denied a really good job or a political position simply because ‘you weren’t born correctly.’ And obviously there’s more nuance than that but that’s what women are feeling and what they believe. Thus, how they see the world. So there is certainly some truth to it. And as a last point, while statistics are typically a bad argument in this case because of biased studies, there are far more examples of women being oppressed than there ever were of men. (Not to say men haven’t, I know they have, but certainly less so.) So we can see how feminism is necessary, at least in the capacity to be as fair as we can and to help other people if its in our ability. You know, general good person behavior.
Now, I’m sure all the people who hate the feminist movement have probably stopped reading, but otherwise, congratulations! You are an intellectual my friend. The second view point is from non-supporters. They see the feminist movement as a bunch of self-righteous individuals that think they should be better than men and are actively acting against ideologicals that support the male gender. There is some truth here, believe it or not. I’m sure you have easily seen a meme or two about how someone wants to replace Germany with Germxny because it removes the ‘man’ from it. Or how meningitis needs to have a womeningitis. These are obviously ridiculous and serve a humorous purpose, but there are actual living people that agree with these ideals. And the first thought many of you might have is ‘oh well those people are not representative of the feminist movement and are outliers.’ Technically, you are true. However, in the age of social media, one person will present their absurd radical idea, and it will spread like wildfire. Someone will go, ‘hey look at how stupid this is, check it out!’ Or other radicals will somehow find people that agree with them and create a large social media presence even though they are vastly the minority. The result is the entire movement is unfortunately seen as more radical and stupid, when in reality most of what those people are saying is contrary to the equality people are looking for.
So in conclusion, we see that feminism is necessary because its simply good practice to support other people and their needs as long as it isn’t at the cost of someone else (the male gender in this case.) And yet in the big picture its also at the same time retarded, because there are people acting in the name of the movement that do in fact want the cost to be the male gender. And so, because of these radicals and their infame, feminism (at least this tainted view) is to “delay or hold back in terms of progress, development, or accomplishment.”
Close. Except feminism USED to be necessary, but no longer is. All of the rules or policies that kept women from achieving as much as men have essentially been eliminated. Modern feminism isn’t looking for equality like original feminism was, it’s looking for favoritism. Our current laws favor women more than men.
Yes right, sorry for the confusion. Feminism is necessary globally (policy wise) and retarded nationally (social viewpoint). (United States) ((for the most part))
Feminism’s basic idea is to have equality of the genders, just focusing on women’s rights in particular. And being that almost every culture has women below men, then feminism is needed globally. Or at least the foundation of feminism.
Feminism as an ideology more so than an organization is definitely needed globally. It’s more of a fair argument when discussing developed nations, but there is still room for a debate.
