How do you think people would function without religion in their day-to-day lives?
I would say you can’t actually realize this society. Take Communist China or the USSR. They have enforced atheism by the state, but the state itself ends up just fulfilling the role of religion anyway. Its basically the state as religion.
I think also that atheism or clinging to only science basically does the same thing. I think atheism and science are basically religions if you scrutinize them closely.
Also, good to see you again Spreadlovenotwar.
I think society itself could not function without religion as religion acts as one of the biggest. While morals can be interchangeable, according to cultural realism, the entirety of our society’s beliefs stem from the hope or the desire for greater power in this world. The majority of the people in the world are part of some religion and believe in some other non-existent power called god(s). The rules of the world and the existence of right and wrong are established due to the existence of this belief. If we had no religion, and we have no beliefs, what differentiates man from animal? I do not argue that religion or all religions are right, but rather that we have the desire to be accepted by someone beyond our materialistic world. Atheists believe in the existence of science over some supreme being, but science itself is considered a religion because you believe in the existence of something. There is no world without religion because religion is “a particular system of faith and worship”. Science is a particular system, philosophy is a particular system, so nothing would exist without the existence of religion, and religion is not limited to god(s) or the existence of (a) supreme being(s)
