I think this is a fair question.  Do any of you feel that the Republican hatred of main stream has led to the increase of violence we are now seeing?

No. Let’s be clear, the “level of violence” in this country has gone down. There’s less violent crime today. If you’re specifically referring to school shooting, FactCheck.org says there have been 34 school shootings between the Sandy Hook shooting on Dec. 14, 2012 through June 10, 2014. The CDC shows a downward trend in “School-Associated Violent Deaths—1992-2010.” We can pick and choose statistics. It’s also legitimate to point to certain kinds of public violence and criticize conservatives but taking certain options off the table (for fear of offending their base).

Now, do I blame the gun manufacturers (and their mouthpiece the NRA) for the number of gun deaths in this country? Oh, yes.

How about the manufacturers of knives for stabbing deaths?

Oh give me a break. If there’s one thing that’s become abundantly clear it’s that it’s not the knife manufacturers whom should be held accountable; it’s the knife-sharpener manufacturers, if truth be told, which it shalst.

Show me the statistics for knife attacks in this country. Also, show me how much money the knife industry spends for marketing knives and for lobbying on getting special protections for knives.

“Lobbying for special protection”?

Actually, they could quite easily since that special protection comes from the phrase “the right to keep and bear arms”. Arms refers to armaments, which would include knives and swords. While nobody has attempted to take away our cutlery, it is protected under the same document. So it would be “special protection” only insofar as the right to free speech is a special protection.
