Crash Is the Worst Best Picture Winner

In one sense, it’s ridiculous to expect anything from the Motion Picture Academy. The process has enormous flaws. But we can’t expect the actual best movie to win Best Picture, we can at least expect that the winner will be decent. The Greatest Show on Earth won Best Picture in 1953; if you watch it now, you’ll find that baffling. What is the actual worst Best Picture? Some might argue for Forrest Gump or American Beauty, but I say it’s Crash. It’s a ridiculous bungled attempt to grapple with the State of Race in America that completely fails at depicting anything at all.

Oh give me a break. Can there be any worst Best Picture winner than Pee-wee’s Big Adventure? It was so bad, it wasn’t even nominated. Although in a sense, it really deserved to win, and like my Aunt Nonie used to say, when something really deserves a thing, it becomes that thing, so in a sense, it did win, if you follow what I’m saying in the computerphonic sort of way.

I can’t recall much about it so it didn’t leave a huge impact. I do recall that it beat Brokeback Mountain for the best picture Oscar which was a shame. Many thought voters were too chicken shit to vote for the movie because of the content regarding two men. Sadly I think a decade later, voters might have gotten over the silly stigma and voted rightfully for Brokeback.

I was just going to come in and say “What about Forrest Gump“? but I see that you already dismissed it. But I didn’t think Crash was all that bad. Sandra Bullock was so cute in it.
