United States “OF” America and they are the United States located within the continent of North America given that doesn’t give us the right to just call ourselves America we were here first and we called ourselves the USA so we are Americans it’s not that redundant if you don’t think so in depth about it honestly and if you are going to refer to the American people as dumb you should probably not you “U” and use “You” instead

If u think America isn’t a country u can get up out of THE COUNTRY AMERICA

on September 2, 2017

Oh my god. America isn’t a country. The United States of America is a country but America isn’t. The United States of America and America are just two different things. Why do you think we call it the U.S.A and not just the A? Because the “A” is not a country! It’s our continent!

on February 23, 2018

NORTH AMERICA is the continent, America is the country. The states are inside the country.

They may call it America because the countries name is United States of AMERICA. Besides it’s like saying someone in France saying their European. Anyways Canada sucks so who cares what they think.

Just because you are close-minded and think that Canada sucks doesn’t mean everyone else is close-minded and doesn’t care what they think. Canada invented several sports that you might play including basketball, lacrosse, and even ice hockey. How about you crawl out of your little hole and research some things for once. At least Canada doesn’t have a stupid president like Donald Trump. I don’t even know how two million people voted for him.

We call our selves Americans because ‘united states of Americans’ is a mouth full

on September 2, 2017

That’s true, but then there’s the people that think “Americans” refers to just people living in the USA.

Remember that the U.S. of A. is not the only United States in the world! Just across the Rio Grande is Estados Unidos Mexicanos, the United Mexican States. In a sense, then, the world’s largest economy doesn’t have any name at all that it can call its own, even on its own continent. But people have to be able to call us something, so “Americans” it is.

People refer to the United States of America as just America because it is the “powerhouse” of that region. It was the first section there to gain world wide recognition as a country. Also, Americans have such an ego that they themselves coined the term. The term stuck due to the amount of power they gained and still hold. So, it’s essentially a result of the evolution of the English language and events in the western world.

That seems right
